Dasa shows the timing of life periods. ThalaiEzhuthu focuses rating on Bukthi and Anthara, because they are easier to feel and compare.
Maha Dasa
Maha Dasa is the main long period. It gives the background theme for many years, but we do not ask for direct Maha rating because it is too long and mixed.
Bukthi
Bukthi is the sub-period inside a Maha Dasa. Your rating is stored with both Maha and Bukthi planet numbers, so you can later see which Bukthi was good inside which Maha.
Anthara
Anthara is a smaller period inside Bukthi. These ratings help refine whether a planet felt supportive, stressful, slow, profitable or blessed.
